I primarily teach European and migration law courses at the University of Bristol, including its free online course on global citizenship. My teaching approach focuses on two main elements: an international viewpoint and a research-oriented methodology. This allows me to foster meaningful discussions with students from various backgrounds about current policy, legal, and academic developments both in Europe and globally.
I have been invited to teach courses and seminars at numerous institutions worldwide, including NYU, King’s College London, Helsinki, Gothenburg, Barcelona, and Los Andes in Bogotá, among many others. I am a Global Distinguished Professor of Law at Notre Dame University. I have also led seminars at summer courses in Geneva, ULB Brussels, Casa Rui Barbosa in Rio de Janeiro, and the Harvard Summer Program on Refugee and Migration Studies held in Greece. Furthermore, I have been involved in various training programs for lawyers, judges, and civil servants from government and international organisations, organised by institutions such as the World Bank, the Academy of European Law (ERA), and the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN).
I currently oversee PhD, Master’s, and undergraduate students in fields related to migration and mobility. Additionally, I have participated in PhD committees at the European University Institute in Florence as well as at institutions in the UK, USA, Spain, Norway, Ecuador, and Brazil. I encourage prospective PhD students to express their interest. Information on how to apply to the PhD programme at the University of Bristol Law School is available here.
